§ 2-4. Election of county board of supervisors.

  • TITLE

    AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS TO BE ELECTED BIENNIALLY FOR STAGGERED FOUR-YEAR TERMS

    (a)

    Elections of the county board of supervisors shall be held biennially for staggered four-year terms, commencing with the general election to be held in November, 2003.

    (b)

    For the election to be held in November, 2003, three (3) candidates, which is the smallest number of candidates which creates a majority of the elected supervisors shall be elected for terms of four (4) years and two (2) candidates shall be elected for terms of two (2) years.

    (c)

    For the election to be held in November, 2003, individual terms of members shall be assigned by the electoral board by election district in a drawing at a meeting held by the electoral board prior to the last day for a person to qualify as a candidate.

    (d)

    In all elections thereafter all successful candidates shall be elected for terms of four (4) years.

    (e)

    The elected school board shall consist of five (5) members, being the same number of members to be elected at the regular election for the Board of Supervisors of Tazewell County, Virginia. The members of the school board shall be elected from the established Tazewell County, Virginia, election districts, on the same basis as the board of supervisors, and said election districts and terms shall be coterminous with the election districts and terms for the Board of Supervisors of Tazewell County, Virginia.
